Edinburgh Airport started commercial services in 1947, previously having been a British air defence base known as Turnhouse Aerodrome since 1918.

Situated in Ingleston, just off the M8, about 6 miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre, it is the busiest airport in Scotland and handling over 12.3 million passengers in 2016 and is the sixth busiest in the UK.

Edinburgh Airport is currently owned and operated by Global Infrastructure Partners, which is also the majority shareholder and management leader at Gatwick Airport. There is one main terminal building and two runways servicing all arrivals and departures. Among many other airlines, Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways all fly out of Edinburgh Airport.

The entrance to Edinburgh Airport is reached by the A8 Glasgow Road, close to the M8 and M9 motorways. The A8 junction is between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts.

With this option, you will be met outside Edinburgh airport’s terminal building so no buses are required. Your car is then taken to a secured site before it is bought back to the terminal on your return so you can drive straight home.
