As most UK airports, it was previously an RAF base, RAF Kirmington, which opened in 1941 during World War II, but it was abandoned after the war and lay unused until 1974 when the local council re-opened the site as Kirmington Airport. The local area was renamed Humberside following local government re-organisation in England so the airport name was changed to Humberside Airport.  

From 1999 until 2012 Humberside Airport was owned by Manchester Airports Group (MAG), it was then sold to the Eastern Group of companies and North Lincolnshire Council has a minority shareholding.

Humberside airport is between Scunthorpe and Grimsby and is easily accessed from the A180 and M180.

There are three on-airport long term car parks parking options to choose from. These car parks run by Humberside Airport. If you have a blue disabled parking permit, you should go to Car Park 1, and at the car park barrier take a ticket and then park in one of the designated spaces. Then take your ticket and blue badge to the information desk in the Terminal building to be registered prior to check-in.
