Newcastle - Callerton Parking

We were originally booked to park at Callerton as we always do but owing to the corona virus we were informed that we would be changed to parking in the short stay car park at the airport itself. This was fine and I have to say that we were most grateful when we found that our car had been secured due to a window being left open but when we, and I might add, several other cars, came to leave we had untold problems. We were unable to exit the barrier and the machine was saying that we needed to pay £330.00. I tried ringing the number on the machine but was unable to speak to anyone, tried the airport number but again was unable to speak to anyone. I then walked across to the airport building (in the pouring rain I might add) but after walking from one end of the ground floor to the other there was not one member of staff available to assist anyone, who like myself, had a problem. On returning to our vehicle I found that my husband had tried the telephone number again and had been able to speak to someone who consequently lifted the barrier for us. This is sadly not what you need when you arrive from your trip in the middle of the night. Hopefully we will be able to park at Callerton on our future trips away where, as I have said, we have never had any problems.
