Newcastle airport drop-off charges

Newcastle airport taxi drivers are said to be up in arms after a the airport introduced a £1 charge for parking in the new drop-off zone.

The BBC reports taxi drivers think the new Newcastle Airport Parking charge is unfair as it instantly cuts their profit for airport runs. By law the taxi drivers are only allowed to charge hackney carriage rates and are therefore unable to pass the charge on to customers so it comes out if their profit.

Newcastle airport believe that the charge is necessary to facilitate the new drop-off area as the old one simply couldn’t cope with the volume of cars arriving at the terminal.

Customers who are driving to the airport and have booked parking at Newcastle airport should not be concerned as the car parks must purchase licenses to be able to transfer people to and from the terminal.
