Security checks being very intensive in this day and age, we should give ourselves plenty of time at the airport. Avoid the stress of standing in a queue hopping from one foot to the other because the clock is ticking at our departure gate! For long-haul we are advised to arrive at least 3 hours before departure, which is probably advisable in an airport as large as Heathrow.
